The Hubbell House

on

The Hubbell House was established in 1854 and is full of charm and stories of yesteryear. This is my Dad’s favorite place to eat, so I invited him and Mom over for a Happy Father’s Day Friday night dinner. My brother and his wife joined us. Reservations are recommended on the weekend for this gem. If you haven’t heard of it or visited there it is located in the charming village of Mantorville which is just 15 minutes west of Rochester and a mile from Kasson.  This historic restaurant has stood the test of time and has seen the likes of  former President Ulysses S. Grant along with several other historic figures and celebrities. The decor is from the era and the rooms are segmented and very cozy and comfortable.

We ordered the onion rings first. We all love onion rings…these, by far, are the best we have had in a long time. Lightly hand breaded with a tasty batter and thin cut. Delicious. The Hubbel House offers options for any palate. Two of us ordered steak and shrimp, two ordered the orange roughy  stuffed and covered with shrimp and a light cheese sauce. My husband ordered the walleye sandwich. He said it was just ok and not very tasty. He won’t order that again. My Dad, however, ordered the walleye dinner and he raved about it. It was a generous piece of fish and beautifully done with a light and flavorful breading. This place is absolutely a must visit for anyone near or far. There is also a saloon connected which has it’s own tasty menu. Definitely worth a visit to Mantorville. Enjoy!
