The Tap House is located in an historic building nestled in the middle of historic 3rd street in downtown Rochester. In the recent past, they have grown into the space next door and that seating area welcomes you with a swank, comfortable decor with chandeliers and high buttoned tufted teal blue booths. The original area is not swank but warm and inviting and the staff is super friendly, helpful and full of information. Upstairs offers more seating inside, and several comfortable areas outside on the rooftop.
The menu has gradually expanded since their opening and now is really in full force. They have stepped it up. Burgers, crab cakes and a crab cake sandwich, tacos, cheese curds, nachos, burritos, quesadillas, etc.
We ordered the crab cake sandwich and the shrimp tacos. The crab cake recipe, we learned from our server, is one he brought to the establishment from the east coast. It is delicious! The chipotle sauce that was on the sandwich though- completely took over and overpowered the really delicious taste. Without the sauce- it was light, yet meaty, and oh so flavorful. Absolutely worth a try. The shrimp tacos were equally amazing. The sauce packs some heat, but the rest of it- I cannot wait to experience them again. Soft tortilla, perfectly done shrimp, a little cabbage and some sauce, wonderful. I don’t say that lightly. Ever. The best shrimp tacos in town.
If you are looking for somewhere different than the usual, please try the Tap House. You will absolutely not be disappointed with the atmosphere, staff and especially not the food. Enjoy!
Oh, and the onion rings are awesome! A light and not greasy breading with nice crisp crunch.
